Chennai, 02 June 2026: The Valedictory ceremony of the GEM (Girl Empowerment Mission) 2026 was held with great enthusiasm and pride at NTECL Vallur, marking the successful culmination of yet another impactful edition of NTPC’s flagship social initiative aimed at empowering young girls through holistic development.
The valedictory function was graced by Shri Sanjay Kumar Sinha, Executive Director & CEO, NTECL, as the Chief Guest. The occasion was also honoured by the presence of Smt. Anju Sinha, President, Deepa Jyothi Ladies Club, along with senior dignitaries including Shri Bimal Kumar Saha, General Manager (O&M), Shri Piyush Srivastava, General Manager (Chemistry), Heads of Departments, AGMs, GEM organising committee members, members of Deepa Jyothi Ladies Club, parents and family members of GEM participants and other distinguished guests.
The ceremony commenced with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp, symbolizing knowledge, hope, and empowerment. This was followed by a welcome address by Dr. Surenthiran Narayansamy, Head of Human Resources (HOHR), who highlighted the salient features of NTPC’s flagship GEM programme. In his address, he emphasized how the initiative nurtures young girls through a comprehensive approach encompassing education, life skills, confidence building, health awareness, and leadership development, thereby empowering them to realize their full potential.
A vibrant cultural programme presented by the 50 participants of GEM 2026 followed the inaugural session. The audience was enthralled by a series of energetic and creative performances, including various dance forms. The participants also rendered a melodious patriotic Hindi song, showcasing their musical talent and national spirit. One of the highlights of the evening were the speeches of GEM participants sharing their experience in English and Tamil, performing Thirukkural in Tamil & English, and performing a thought-provoking mime that conveyed a powerful message on conserving natural resources and safeguarding the future through responsible environmental stewardship.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Sanjay Kumar Sinha, ED & CEO, NTECL, lauded the efforts of the participants and organizers. In his motivating speech, he reiterated NTPC’s commitment to empowering young girls and expressed his confidence that the GEM programme serves as a transformative platform that inspires participants to become confident, capable, and responsible citizens of tomorrow. He lauded the efforts of the teachers, organisers for conducting the flagship program seamlessly and making every GEM participant feel at home with the care and amenities provided. He encouraged parents of participants to trust in such a cause by NTPC and send their girl child to the NTPC GEM flagship program to see their child get empowered and trained in skills for a brighter future.
The ceremony also featured the Prize Distribution and Certificate Distribution Ceremony, during which participants were recognized for their outstanding performance, active participation, and successful completion of the programme. The awards and certificates served as a testament to the dedication, learning, and growth demonstrated by the girls throughout the duration of GEM 2026.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Senior Manager HR, Smt. Sundari Pappu, followed by dinner, providing an opportunity for participants, parents, dignitaries, and organizers to interact and celebrate the success of the programme.
The successful completion of GEM 2026 stands as a reflection of NTPC’s unwavering commitment to social responsibility and its vision of creating empowered young women who can contribute meaningfully to society and the nation.
