New Delhi, 14 June 2026: Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce Visits SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant. Members of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce, led by Smt. Dola Sen, Chairperson of the Committee and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), paid a brief visit to SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP).
The Committee comprised Dr. Sangeeta Balwant, MP (Rajya Sabha); Shri Dhananjay Bhimrao Mahadik, MP (Rajya Sabha); Shri Sadanand Mhalu Seth Tanavade, MP (Rajya Sabha); Shri Biswajit Sinha, MP (Rajya Sabha); Shri Ramesh Awasthi, MP (Lok Sabha); Shri Anand Bhadauria, MP (Lok Sabha); Shri Atul Garg, MP (Lok Sabha); Shri K. Rajasekhar Basavaraj Hitnal, MP (Lok Sabha); Dr. Prashant Yadavrao Padole, MP (Lok Sabha); Shri Santosh Pandey, MP (Lok Sabha); Dr. Shiv Pal Singh Patel, MP (Lok Sabha); Shri Amra Ram, MP (Lok Sabha); Smt. Anita Subhadarshini, MP (Lok Sabha); and Shri Girdhari Yadav, MP (Lok Sabha). Officials from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Secretariats also accompanied the delegation.
On arrival at the Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC), the Committee members were warmly welcomed by Shri Ajay Kumar Chakraborty, Director In-Charge (BSP) along with Executive Directors and senior officers of the plant.
The visit commenced with an introductory session held at the HRDC auditorium. During the session, Ms. Shalini Chaurasia, Dy. Manager (PR), made a detailed presentation highlighting the production facilities, key products, departmental functions, technological capabilities, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives of Bhilai Steel Plant. The Committee members were also briefed on the essential safety protocols to be followed during the plant visit by Ms. UV Subhadra, GM (SED).
Following the presentation, the Committee members proceeded for a tour of the plant’s major production units. During the visit, they inspected Blast Furnace-8 and the Universal Rail Mill, gaining first-hand insight into various steelmaking processes. The delegation observed the hot metal production process at Blast Furnace-8 and was apprised of the manufacturing and rolling process of the world’s longest 260-metre rails at the Universal Rail Mill.
The Committee members showed keen interest in the plant’s production systems, advanced technological operations, and quality control mechanisms. They closely examined key production facilities and obtained detailed information regarding steelmaking processes, technological strengths, and ongoing production activities at the plant.
After completing the plant tour, the Committee members returned to the Human Resource Development Centre, where they shared their observations and experiences regarding the plant’s operational practices and production.
