New Delhi, 13 November 2025: BHEL is proud to celebrate the inauguration of the 1020 MW Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project (PHEP-II) by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, The King of Bhutan.
This greenfield hydro project is developed by the Government of India and the Royal Government of Bhutan under a bilateral agreement. BHEL has successfully commissioned all six units of this massive joint venture, supplying the complete Electro-Mechanical (E&M) works, featuring the highest head Francis Turbine (241 meters) ever commissioned in Bhutan for this turbine type.
This achievement boosts BHEL’s contribution to nearly 91% of Bhutan’s total installed hydro capacity—a true testament to regional cooperation and engineering excellence!
