New Delhi, 22 September 2026: Hon’ble Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, joined the Valedictory Session of the International Conference on “The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics”, organised by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), in the gracious presence of Hon’ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
Drawing from his responsibilities across both the Power and Urban Affairs sectors, the Hon’ble Minister highlighted how the impacts of climate change are increasingly visible in our everyday lives. He emphasised that India’s approach is not merely reactive, but preventive and future-focused—integrating sustainability into the country’s energy transition and rapidly growing cities.
India has already achieved the target of 50% installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources, five years ahead of schedule, with non-fossil sources now accounting for nearly 55% of installed capacity and over 304 GW. At the same time, cleaner urban mobility is being advanced through the growing adoption of electric vehicles and expansion of public transport systems such as Metro networks, helping make India’s urbanisation more sustainable and environment-friendly.
The Minister underlined that climate change is not merely a matter of concern, but a matter of serious thought, collective responsibility and timely action. Let us move forward towards a Viksit Bharat and a Sustainable Bharat.
