Kolkata, 16 June 2026: The Chief Guest, the Chairman, and other dignitaries addressed the gathering during the prize distribution ceremony of the Annual Mine Safety Week-2025. Attending the prize distribution ceremony of the Annual Mine Safety Week-2025 as the Chief Guest, Mr. Ujjwal Ta, Director General of DGMS, commended NCL’s achievements in production.
He emphasized the necessity of according equal priority to safety, health, and worker welfare alongside production and productivity. He noted that the DGMS’s 125-year journey has been one of continuous improvement and development, with laws and regulations being strengthened over time to ensure safe and sustainable mining.
Mr. Ujjwal Ta emphasized the need for green mining, the ‘Zero Harm’ goal, a positive shift in safety culture, and self-regulation. He also welcomed the increasing participation of women in the mining sector and highlighted the need to expand health services. He expressed confidence that NCL would continue to excel in the areas of production, productivity, and safety.
In his address, Mr. Neeraj Kumar, Deputy Director General, DGMS (Northern Zone), Ghaziabad, praised the exhibition and programs organized during the Annual Mine Safety Week. He stressed the critical importance of effectively complying with laws designed for worker welfare, safety, and health protection. On this occasion, he shared information regarding the role of the DGMS and statutory provisions related to mine safety.
Urging HOEs, MDOs, and other stakeholders to actively collaborate in strengthening the safety culture, he assured that the DGMS would always support the achievement of safety goals. Highlighting the progressive provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health Code, he welcomed the growing participation of women in the mining sector and emphasized the need to disseminate the outcomes of safety discussions to the workers at the grassroots level.

In his presidential address, Sairam stated that safety measures must be further strengthened to keep pace with the increasing mechanization accompanying the expansion of projects. He emphasized the adoption of technological interventions, automation, and innovation in the safety domain, as well as the integration of state-of-the-art global technologies.
He remarked that adopting cutting-edge technologies instead of relying on traditional systems is the need of the hour to tackle future challenges. Shri Sairam called for transforming the Vocational Training Centers located at NCL projects into key hubs for safety-related knowledge, training, and innovation. He noted that the deliberations and brainstorming sessions held during ‘Safety Week’ yielded numerous valuable suggestions, and affirmed that ‘Team NCL’ is prepared to successfully achieve production and dispatch targets while according top priority to safety.
