New Delhi, 16 June 2026: In a significant stride towards the completion of NHPC’s 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (Arunachal Pradesh/Assam), the boxing-up of Unit-5 was successfully accomplished in the presence of Shri Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC.
CMD, NHPC congratulated and lauded dedication, perseverance and hard work of all employees in accomplishing yet another major milestone towards the completion of this prestigious project. He also expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders including locals, associated with the project and the executing agencies-M/s GE Vernova, M/s BGS-SGS-SOMA, M/s TREL, M/s PEL for their invaluable contributions. Emphasizing the strategic importance of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project in strengthening the nation’s clean energy capacity and ensuring sustainable development of the region, he encouraged the team to maintain the same momentum and commitment towards the timely commissioning of the remaining units of this project of national importance.
The occasion was attended by Shri Rajendra Prasad, ED (In-charge) & Head of Subansiri Lower Project; Shri P.K. Ray, ED (EM & HM), SLP; Shri Narender Kumar, ED (Dibang); Shri U.K. Nand, ED (PMSG); along with other senior officers from NHPC’s Corporate Office.
The successful boxing-up of Unit -5 paves the way for its early commissioning, which will add 250 MW of generation capacity to the grid. With this, the commissioned capacity of the project will increase to 1,250 MW through five units, out of the total eight units (8 × 250 MW) constituting the project’s installed capacity of 2,000 MW.
