Coal India Celebrated 51th Foundation Day with A Tribute To ‘Iron Man of India’ at Kolkata

New Delhi, 01 November 2025: The 51st Foundation Day celebrations commenced with our Chairman, Shri P.M. Prasad, and Functional Directors, paying floral tributes at the Martyrs’ Memorial. Chairman, then unfurled the ‘Coal India Flag’ and felicitated our former senior officials who graced the occasion.

A tribute was also paid to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the ‘Iron Man of India’, on his birth anniversary, celebrated as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’. Our Chairman, Shri P. M. Prasad, in his welcome address, reflected on Coal India’s illustrious journey over the past five decades and expressed gratitude to the stalwarts of the coal industry for their invaluable contributions.

He highlighted that from a modest production of 79 million tonnes in 1975, Coal India has grown to achieve 781 million tonnes in the last fiscal. He reaffirmed that coal will continue to remain a key source of energy for at least the next two and a half decades, underscoring responsible and sustainable coal production, while simultaneously pursuing diversification into solar power, critical mineral blocks, clean coal technologies, and innovations. Former Chairman, Shri Gopal Singh, delivered the J. G. Kumaramangalam Lecture, where he broadly outlined Coal India’s journey – past, present, and future – in alignment with the nation’s Viksit Bharat vision and net-zero goals.

Emphasizing the importance of vision, planning, determination, and perseverance, Shri Singh asserted that with these strengths, Coal India can achieve any target, however ambitious, and continue to uphold its legacy as one of the strongest pillars of the nation’s economy. Our Director (HR), Dr. Vinay Ranjan, delivered the vote of thanks.

Our Director (Marketing), Shri Mukesh Choudhary; Director (Finance), Shri Mukesh Agrawal; Director (Technical), Shri Achyut Ghatak; Director (Business Development), Shri Asheesh Kumar, and Chief Vigilance Officer, Shri Brajesh Kumar Tripathy were present on the occasion.
