Rishikesh, 08 August 2024: Shri R K Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director, THDC India Limited announced the commencement of operations for the Coal Handling Plant (CHP) at the Khurja Super Thermal Power Plant (STPP) with the successful dispatch of the first rake of coal from its Amelia Coal Mine.
Sh. Vishnoi said that the CHP at Khurja STPP, is equipped with a Stacker Reclaimer capable of stacking coal at a rated capacity of 1600 Metric Tons Per Hour (MTPH). The Stockyard has a storage capacity of 300,000 metric tons, designed to meet the coal requirements of two units at Khurja STPP for approximately 20 days. An initial stock of 40,000 tonnes of coal has been stacked to facilitate trial and testing for Unit #1, with planned synchronization scheduled for September 2024.
Shri RK Vishnoi further added that the dedicated fuel sources of THDCIL’s maiden Thermal Power Project, the Amelia Coal Mines at Madhya Pradesh successfully dispatched its first rake of coal to Khurja STPP on August 5, 2024. The Amelia Coal mines commenced operations on November 17, 2022, with coal production beginning on February 18, 2023 ahead of its schedule and to date, approximately 2.5 million tonnes of coal have been dispatched to various plants, including NTPC Limited.
Shri Shallinder Singh, Director (Personnel), THDC India Limited, expressed happiness on the successful achievement of this historic milestone. He congratulated the teams at both the Amelia Coal Mine Project and the Khurja Super Thermal Power Project for their outstanding excellence and unwavering commitment.

Shri Bhupendra Gupta added that the successful integration of the CHP with coal dispatch operations from the Amelia Coal Mine highlights the company’s dedication to meeting energy needs with reliability and efficiency.
