Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD NTPC Visit to See Progress at Iconic 2400MW, Tehri Hydro Power Complex of THDC

Rishikesh, 04 July 2024: Shri Gurdeep Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, NTPC Limited, undertook a visit to the iconic 2400 MW, Tehri Hydro Power Complex of THDC India Limited (THDCIL). Shri Gurdeep Singh was warmly welcomed by Shri R K Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director, THDCIL, Shri Shallinder Singh, Director (Personnel), THDCIL, and Shri Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical), THDCIL along with other senior officers of THDC India Limited.

During his visit, Shri Gurdeep Singh meticulously inspected the ongoing construction activities of the 1000 MW Tehri Pumped Storage Plant (PSP). Alongside Shri K S Sundaram, Director (Projects), NTPC and Shri S N Tripathi, Regional ED, NTPC, he reviewed the progress of critical areas such as the Butterfly Valve Chamber, Machine Hall, and Outfall of the Tehri PSP. Furthermore, he conducted a detailed inspection at the Machine Hall of the 1000 MW Tehri Hydro Power Project.

Sh. Singh also interacted with the senior officers of THDCIL during a special interactive session, emphasizing the critical importance of the timely commissioning of the Tehri PSP. Sh. Singh aimed to boost morale and foster a collaborative spirit among the team and acknowledged the dedication and efforts of the THDCIL team.

Sh. R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director, THDC India Limited during his address highlighted the significance of Pumped Storage Plants (PSPs) in the energy landscape of the country, particularly in the efforts to provide 24×7 affordable power to the nation. He emphasized that PSPs are pivotal for the future of energy transition, underscoring their role in enhancing grid stability and integrating renewable energy sources.

The presence of Sh. Shallinder Singh, Director (Personnel), THDCIL, Sh. Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical), THDCIL, Sh. K. S. Sundaram, Director (Projects), NTPC and Sh. S. N. Tripathi, Regional ED, NTPC further enhanced the spirit and motivation of the employees. Their involvement underscored a strong support system and a unified approach towards fostering a sense of camaraderie and collective dedication within the team.

Among the dignitaries present during the meeting and inspection were. L. P. Joshi, ED (TC), Sh. A. R. Gairola, GM, (PSP) and Dr. A. N. Tripathy, GM (HR & A; CC).

NTPC is majority equity partner of THDC India limited and is India’s largest power utility with a total installed capacity of 76,048 MW (including JVs). Established in 1975, NTPC is steering ahead to be India’s largest integrated power company and targets to become a 130 GW firm by 2032.
