New Delhi, 14 October 2025: NTPC Limited and Engineers India Limited (EIL) formalized a strategic agreement to jointly develop a Coal-to-Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG) facility. The proposed plant shall utilize high ash Indian coal from NTPC’s captive mines, with the generated SNG intended to serve as a cleaner fuel alternative for NTPC’s gas-based power stations.
Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD, NTPC and Smt Vartika Shukla, CMD, EIL graced the signing ceremony on 13th Oct at SCOPE in the presence of Shri K S Sundaram, Director (Projects); Shri Shivam Srivastava, Director (Fuel); Shri Shaswattam, ED (NETRA); and EIL Directors Shri Atul Gupta, Director (Commercial); Shri Rajiv Agarwal, Director (Technical); Shri U K Verma, ED (Process); and other senior officials from both the organization.
The strategic initiative shall pave the way for validation of an integrated technology for effective and clean utilization of high ash Indian coal through gasification process and emphasize NTPC’s initiative of “Greening the Coal” in addition to its ongoing efforts in Carbon Capture and Utilization.
