Kolkata, 13 July 2026: Shri Birendra Kumar Thakur, Director (Technical), Ministry of Coal, Government of India, visited Sonepur Bazari Area of Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL). He was welcomed by Shri Shambhu Kumar Jha, Area General Manager, Sonepur Bazari Area, along with his team.
During the visit, Shri Thakur inspected the proposed Coal-to-Syngas Plant site at Bahadurpur and reviewed the progress of the project. Discussions were held on the project plan, road acquisition requirements, and the proposed roadmap for implementing the coal gasification plant.
Shri Thakur shared valuable suggestions and guidance for the smooth and timely execution of the project. The visit highlighted the importance of coal gasification and cleaner coal technologies in strengthening India’s energy security and promoting the sustainable utilisation of domestic coal resources.
