Talcher, Odisha | June 10, 2025: Talcher Thermal Power Project (TTPS) successfully concluded the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) 2025 on 8th June with a vibrant cultural showcase and heartfelt participation from the community. The four-week residential initiative empowered 40 girls from nearby
villages, nurturing their self-confidence, skills, and dreams for a brighter future.

The valedictory ceremony was graced by Shri Vijay Chand, Executive Director & Head of Project, NTPC Talcher Thermal, as the Chief Guest. Smt. Vibha Agarwal, President, Sagarika Ladies Club, joined the occasion along with NTPC employees, family members, sarpanches from surrounding villages, proud parents, and local villagers who had been vital supporters of the mission.

In a colorful display of talent and transformation, the GEM girls presented cultural dances, musical performances, speeches sharing their experiences, as well as demonstrations of yoga and self-defence techniques. A highlight of the event was a moving street play on gender equality, trained by the expert team from FIZA Arts, which received a standing ovation.

Over the course of four weeks, the girls underwent sessions in digital literacy, spoken English, art & craft, health and hygiene, child rights, personality development, and more. The program aimed not only at skill-building but at instilling a deep sense of confidence, discipline, and purpose.

Speaking at the event, Shri Vijay Chand said, “At NTPC Talcher Thermal, we strongly believe that empowering girls at the grassroots is key to transforming communities. The energy, talent, and spirit
these young girls have shown is truly inspiring. This mission is a reflection of our commitment to inclusive growth and nation-building.”

One of the young participants shared: “Before coming here, I never imagined speaking on a stage. Now, I want to become a teacher and help other girls like me.” A proud parent, added: “My daughter has returned with new confidence. I thank NTPC for giving our girls a platform we never had.”

The ceremony concluded with certificate distribution, joyous applause, and emotional farewells — marking not an end, but the beginning of a new journey for the empowered daughters of the region.
